Frank van der Hoeven had this week his MSc thesis defense. The topic he investigated is "Crack Width of Reinforced Concrete under Combined Imposed Deformation and Mechanical Loading". He used the small TSTM-setup that Minfei Liang developed during his PhD and incorporated rebars into the concrete specimens. He studied the effect of autogenous and thermal shrinkage on the crack width that develops in early age reinforced concrete. You can download his thesis here.

William Pierson Field Visiting Lecturer

29 Sept 2024 21:08

This week I visited Princeton University as a William Pierson Field Visiting Lecturer. It was Prof. Reza Moini that took the initiative to invite me over to Princeton to deliver several lectures as part of his class on additive manufacturing of smart materials. Furthermore I gave a seminar at the Civil and Environmental  Engineering department on "micro-mechanics, self healing and 3D-printing of cement-based materials". It was great to visit all the labs at Princeton and talk to the faculty members and students working on a lot of fantastic topics. This was really inspirational. Thanks Reza for organizing this visit!.
