Visiting COVRA

Yesterday we (Anne-Catherine, Mladena and myself) visited COVRA, the location where the Netherlands stores all the nuclear waste. At the moment most of the waste is stored in the orange building, above ground in concrete containers. We were there to discuss a research project for storing the waste deep under ground in tunnels with concrete liners in dense clay layers.

Today Karel Dvorak from Brno University of Technology and Dalibor Vsiansky from Masaryk University also in Brno visited me. We talked all day about research on cement, concrete, recycling and geology and we walked through all our labs.

Last Friday a delegation from Polyuse (https://polyuse.xyz) visited the Microlab. They are producing 3D-concrete printers in Japan that are already used a lot in practice by Japanese construction companies.

last stop: Shandong University, Jinan

My last stop at this China-trip was Shandong University in Jinan, where our former PhD-student Hongzhi Zhang is Professor now. Gave a lecture here for his entire group and had a discussion on potential collaboration connected to the MAGICON project.

Plenary keynote at ISVCHC2025

Today I gave a plenary keynote presentation at the ISVCHC2025, International Symposium on Volume Changes of Hardening Concrete at Nanjing, China. After the conference I took the high speed train from Nanjing to Jinan at 349km/h to meet Prof. Hongzhi Zhang at Shandong University.
