Kicking off Day 2 of #ICSHM2026 with a masterclass on the evolution of our field!
We are incredibly honored to feature Prof. Erik Schlangen from the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) as our first Keynote Speaker this morning.
20 Years of Self-Healing Construction Materials As the Professor of Experimental Micromechanics, Prof. Schlangen took the stage to share invaluable insights drawn from two decades of pioneering research. By studying materials at the microscopic level, his work has led to massive breakthroughs in understanding and manipulating the intrinsic behavior of construction materials.
His presentation highlighted the incredible scope of modern materials science, touching on everything from smart construction materials and discrete element modelling to the 3D printing of concrete. This innovative work is actively supported by the advanced testing facilities at TU Delft's Microlab.
