Concrete in Vienna

While in Vienna for the FraMCoS conference I had some spare time to visit some real concrete. The Wotrubakirche is based on a design by Fritz Wotruba and built between 1974 and 1976. The outside is impressive with all the concrete blocks and the inside is remarkably light. It is a mustgo when in Vienna.

Last week was the wondefrfull conference FraMCoS in Vienna. It was already the 12th edition of the conference on Fracture Mechanics of Concrete and Concrete Structures which is organised once every three years. The first edition was held in Breckenridge in 1992, where I also was present. I missed over the years 3 editions. This time I presented 2 contributions of our work on self healing and strain hardening concrete and on testing and modelling of fibre-matrix interface.

Prof. En-Hua Yang from NTU (Singapore) visting us

Professor En-Hua Yang is visiting us this week from NTU in Singapore. He gave an inspiring lecture on "Characterisation and modification of interface transition zone in high performance fiber-reinforced concrete". He also took part in the PhD-defence of Shan He.

Today Shan He defended fis PhD-thesis. We have a new young Dr. Congratulations Shan!. Nr 26, and the first time 'Cum Laude". Well deserved with all the things you did, also besides the PhD-work.

Last Thursday, March 27, Claudia defended her PhD-thesis successfully. Congratulations! You are the 25th PhD-Student that defends the thesis at Delft University for which I am one of the supervisors.
